We know how important your new boat is to you, and although we don't deliver boats personally we do our best to help you get yours as quickly and safely as possible. The best guarantee for a timely arrival is to order your boat early in the fall so it comes on the first container of the season in December or early January.
Being located within a 2-4 hour drive of major population centres of Canada and the U.S. many customers come to our shop to pick up their boats themselves.
We do not use commercial carrier services. Unless a boat is securely strapped into a heavy duty wooden crate it will be damaged, often beyond repair, in the back of a transport or at a warehouse. A wooden crate is costly to make, and the pickup/delivery charges, on top of the transport costs, are usually prohibitive for customers.
If picking up your boat at our shop is not possible for you, we can suggest several alternatives: a -delivery by club trailer to Florida - most of the boats arriving on our December container for Canadian customers are picked up in early February by Corey Firth from Orenda and driven to Florida. From there they are distributed to the various training camps their new owners are attending. If the owner is not attending a camp in Florida they usually make arrangements with a club to bring their boat back home for them. We can help you make arrangements to get your boat down to Florida; b - club trailers - customers can make arrangements with their club to pick up their new boat at our shop on their return trip from Florida in late spring or if they come down for the Lake Placid International Regatta in early July; c - private boat haulers - the two private outfits we use most often are Jon Stephan, who makes regular runs up and down the eastern coast of the U.S., and KAS Transport, a private company from Rochester, NY. Because they both strive to maintain reasonable prices they travel with full loads; co-ordinating boat pickups and deliveries involves many logistical details and requires them to maintain flexible timetables.
Customers are welcome to contact these services directly for a quote and delivery schedule. If you need your boat for a special camp or competition we will let them know, but please keep in mind that we are just one of their many customers and they determine their delivery schedule, not us! Also please keep in mind that once they leave our shop they don't necessarily head directly to your place with your boat because they normally have numerous pickups and deliveries to make on the way. Their schedules can be disrupted by weather, especially during the winter months, vehicle problems and so on. The best way to ensure a timely delivery for your boat is to order it in the fall so it can get to you during the winter months and well before your spring training or competition season begins.
We notify customers when their boat has been picked up and try to give them a rough idea of the delivery schedule. Jon and KAS will notify the customer when they have a more precise delivery timetable. Customers are welcome to contact them directly at any point after their boat has been picked up, but please remember that they cannot give precise delivery information too far in advance. You can reach Jon at 201.956.4342 or KAS at 585-313-9467.
KAS can deliver boats in Canada; however this is generally a very expensive option for customers, as KAS must arrange to store all the other boats not going into Canada somewhere til their return, rent a separate trailer for the trip to Canada, hire a broker to deal with Customs, etc. and the bills quickly add up. The best arrangement for Canadian customers is to meet KAS at the closest border crossing on the U.S. side; d - making your own pickup arrangements - let us know the date and time and we'll have your boat ready for pickup at our shop. New York State sales tax (8%) is charged on boats picked up by customers, no matter where they live; boats picked up and delivered to customers out of state are not charged this tax.
